Heating Tips for Super Bowl Parties

Jan 29, 2021 | Furnace, HVAC, Tips & Tricks | 0 comments

For decades, football has been the sport that brings Americans together. Since the very first Super Bowl of 1967, gathering for game day has been a classic American pastime. When you have a long list of food, guests, and decorations, it can be easy to forget about the importance of your heating system. So we at Kettering-Oakwood Heating & Air wrote up some tips on how to prepare your furnace and your home for your 2021 Super Bowl party!

Your Furnace

Because the Super Bowl takes place in the winter, it’s easy to forget that not only will your furnace be giving off heat, but so will your guests and food! On the flip side, it can really set your plans back if you run into a heating problem hours before the game. So there are multiple things to consider ahead of time when planning your party.

Do a Check-Up

If things have been feeling a little dusty in your home, it’s a good idea to check the condition of your furnace filter. You can do this by turning your thermostat and furnace off, and then checking your filter for dust and dirt. If there is a layer of dust not allowing you to see the material of the filter, then it’s time to replace it! This step is easy and makes a noticeable difference in your home’s air quality.

It’s Getting Hot In Here

When cooking a buffet of food for your guests, you’re bound to use your oven or stove. In winter it’s easy to overcompensate by turning your heat up higher when guests come over. But not on game day! Between your oven, stove, and guests, you’ll want to do the opposite: turn that thermostat down. To start off, keep the temperature set between 60-70 degrees. As things start to get hotter with food and guests start to arrive, gradually turn your heat down one degree at a time. However, no matter what you do, there is always that one friend who’s always cold, so keep some blankets on hand just in case. There’s no golden rule, but by keeping a good eye on your home’s temperature, you can easily keep things nice and comfortable.

Your Guests

Having guests over can be stressful, especially when there’s food to be made and lots of people everywhere! So here are some tips on keeping your guests comfortable and safe for your Super Bowl party this year!

Safety First

Although COVID-19 can be a party pooper, there are a few things you can do ahead of time that not only will your guests appreciate, but will also help keep everyone safe!

Plan Ahead

With the concern of COVID-19, it would be a good idea to do a quick wipe down of all high touch surfaces like door handles, tables, counters, light switches, etc. Also make sure you know all of your guests’ standings on masks and social distancing to avoid any non-sport conflicts at the party! Lastly, by keeping hand sanitizer near food, bathrooms, and doors, you’ll help your friends and family to feel comfortable and safe!

Seating Arrangements

Social distancing can be easily forgotten when everyone is so used to piling on the couch for game day. But you can easily prevent this by providing plenty of seating. When there are more seating options, it’s more likely that your guests will remember to social distance.
